Tonya became intrigued with real estate at a very early age watching with interest as her grandparents bought, fixed up, sold and moved numerous times throughout her childhood and teenage years. By her late teens, she was saving for a down payment on a house; she couldn’t wait to become a homeowner herself. This strong interest lead her to study business with a major in real estate, as well as finance and banking, and she graduated with a bachelors of business from Appalachian State in 2001. In the summer of 2002, she and her husband became proud owners of an adorable little house in West Asheville. She absolutely LOVES Asheville, and feels so blessed to live in such a thriving, beautiful city, with an abundance of outdoor activities right at the doorstep, a great climate, wonderful arts and music scene, and a fantastic foodie environment, even if you’re a vegetarian-like her! Tonya especially adores West Asheville and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. There is something for everyone here and it is easy to see and understand why people are moving here from all other parts of the country.
In 2004, the chance to put her education and love of real estate into a career became available with the opportunity to become a real estate appraiser. She was excited about this offer and became an apprentice to Jeff Shultz, and in 2007, she became a certified residential appraiser. Tonya still works as an appraiser with Shultz Appraisal Company, and the past 15 years in this position has given her a close, inside watch of the Asheville market, as well as all the surrounding sub-markets. She has developed an expertise in the local real estate markets.
Throughout her college years, Tonya was in hospitality. Waiting tables is a fairly lucrative and flexible way to pay the rent while in school. When they moved back to Asheville, she got a job at Asheville’s own Grove Park Inn Resort. Here she met people of all walks of life, from all over the world, and got to share with them what to do and see in Asheville, where to eat, where to hike, how to get wherever and all other things Asheville. Tonya enjoyed sharing the information, loved meeting new people, and helping them have a good time in a place she cherishes. She kept the job part time for many years just so she could have the interaction with guests and co-workers, and take in the awesome sunsets from the terrace. If you haven’t been-you must go!
A few years ago, Tonya decided to get her brokers license, and start shifting into the sales end of real estate. It’s the perfect blend of using her local real estate knowledge, her love of Asheville, and her desire to help and meet people, and show them her city. So, how can she assist you? Whether you are buying or selling, Tonya would love to help!
