Spring has officially arrived in Asheville, which means three things:
- The trails are calling
- The pollen is… aggressive
- My humans are suddenly very interested in “curb appeal”
As Asheville Realty Group’s Director of Walks, Sniffs, and Neighborhood Quality Control, I’ve put together my official guide to spring in Asheville, NC—for locals, newcomers, and anyone considering making this place their home (excellent decision, by the way).
🌸 The Best Dog-Friendly Spots in Asheville This Spring
Not all trails are created equal. I look for three things: good smells, shade, and the potential for snacks. Here are a few Albus-approved favorites:
🐾 Bent Creek Experimental Forest
Miles of trails, plenty of space to roam, and enough variety to keep things interesting. Whether your human hikes or just “meanders,” this is a solid choice.
🌿 The North Carolina Arboretum (dog-friendly trails)
Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails, and the scenery this time of year? Elite. Flowers, fresh air, and very respectable walking paths.
🌊 French Broad River Greenway (select open sections)
Some areas are still recovering, but where open, it’s a go-to for easy, scenic walks along the river. Great for a more leisurely pace (which I sometimes allow).
🌄 Mountains-to-Sea Trail (local sections)
For the more ambitious among us. Big views, real elevation, and a chance to remind your humans who’s actually in charge of the hike.
🏡 What Makes a Home “Albus Approved”
I see a lot of homes. Some are fine. Some are exceptional. The difference? How they live—not just how they look.
Here’s what I look for in the best homes in Asheville:
- 🐾 Walkable neighborhoods (more walks = happier households)
- 🌿 Outdoor living (porches, fenced yards, room to roam)
- 🚿 Mudrooms (wildly underrated, especially in spring)
- 🌄 Proximity to trails + nature (this is Asheville, after all)
The best homes in Asheville don’t just photograph well—they feel good to be in. Especially if you have four legs and a strong appreciation for indoor-outdoor living.
✨ A Rare Kind of Spring Living
Every now and then, I come across a home that checks all of my boxes—and then some.
13 Tulip Poplar Trail, tucked within the private Olivette riverside community, is one of those places.
It’s the kind of home where the outdoors isn’t just nearby—it’s part of daily life. Think long walks along the river, quiet mornings on the porch, and miles of trails woven right into the fabric of the neighborhood. There’s space to roam, views that shift with the seasons, and a level of intention in the design that even I (a dog, yes) can appreciate.
It’s not open to the public—which, frankly, adds to the appeal. The people who live here really live here.
And if you happen to find yourself invited in… I recommend staying a while.
🌷 Spring in Asheville: Why Everyone Falls in Love Again
There’s a shift that happens here every spring.
The light softens, the mountains wake up, and suddenly Asheville is… showing off a little. People spend more time outside, listings start to shine, and buyers remember exactly why they were drawn here in the first place.
If you’ve been thinking about living in Asheville—or making a move within it—spring is when everything starts to click.
(Also, I fully support any decision that results in a better yard situation.)
🐕 Albus’ Official Spring To-Do List
Highly curated. Very important.
- Chase absolutely nothing for at least 20 minutes
- Inspect all new seasonal flowers (closely)
- Attend at least one brewery patio outing
- Encourage your humans to “just take a quick walk” (it will not be quick)
- Remind everyone that every home is better with a dog
🌄 Final Thoughts from Albus
Asheville in the spring just hits differently.
The air, the light, the energy—it’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay outside a little longer… or not leave at all.
If you already call Asheville home, you know exactly what I mean.
If you’re thinking about it… I’m very much in favor.
And if you’re looking for a home that captures all of this—the lifestyle, the setting, the feeling—my humans at Asheville Realty Group would love to show you what’s possible.
